Everything you need to know before your first trip.

Anyone can come to our trips and events! Join our Slack to stay up to date — you will need a UCLA email to join. No prior experience is needed, we welcome all levels from first-timers to seasoned backpackers.

Yes. We run all of our operations through Slack and you need a UCLA email to join.

Absolutely. We run trips rated Easy through Expert and frequently host beginner-friendly day hikes and backpacking trips. Check out our Resources section for packing guides and gear tips before your first trip.

We have a gear rental program with tents, sleeping bags, pads, packs, and more available at low cost. Check the Gear Rental page for what's available and how to reserve it.

Upcoming trips are posted in our Slack channel. Sign-ups open 1–2 weeks before the trip and are lottery style — as long as you sign up within the sign-up window you will have a chance to get on the trip.

Trip leaders are experienced members who want to give back to the club. We do new staff hiring in the winter — keep an eye on Slack for announcements.
